Welcome to Birmingham Boulders!

Whether you’re a first time climber or it’s your first time to our gym, here are some tips to make your first visit a smooth and fun one!

  1. Fill out a waiver

    Waivers are part of the fun! Or at least getting to the fun. Save some time and complete your waiver here before arriving at the gym. If you cannot, you’re welcome to fill it out upon arriving at the gym!

  2. Pick out an outfit

    Looking cool comes second! Come as you are! In climbing, mobility is key, so wear something comfortable that does not restrain your movement. Chalk is helpful to staying on the wall as well, so choose clothing that can get a little chalk on it (don’t worry, it will come out in the wash!)

  3. Choose your own adventure

    We have multiple options for your visit - you can choose to get a single day pass, purchase a non-expiring punch-pass, or join as a member with loads of benefits! Our friendly staff is also available to offer instruction at your level to help you get comfortable on the wall.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What if I have never climbed before?

    • Everyone starts out that way! We have rental gear and classes to make sure you have the equipment you need, and the confidence to help you get to the top of the wall.

  • What is bouldering? Is all climbing the same?

    • Bouldering is a style of climbing that involves scaling shorter walls without aid from a rope, with soft pads for your landing. The other climbing disciplines include sport climbing, traditional (trad) climbing, and speed climbing.

  • Can I climb if I do not have a strong upper body?

    • Of course! Climbing is a full body workout. Most of climbing uses your arm and back muscles to keep you on the wall, and your legs to push you upward so there is no skipping leg day in bouldering! Plus it is a great way to build upper body muscle and coordination.

  • Are there climbs for new climbers?

    • Yes! We have climbs (boulder “problems”) for every level of climber. We have very hard problems for the most advanced climbers and recreational problems for those getting the hang of things!

  • Will I look cool climbing?

    • Heck yes you will! But more importantly, you will be solving problems, finding new strengths, and forming friendships with other climbers at our gym!
